Flat Cut Metal

Printer-Friendly Version
Metal offers a natural style and beauty as ancient as our desire to create.  Waterjet cutter technology and computer-driven routers cut each letter to precision in Aluminum, Bronze, Copper, and Steel.  These highly engineered manufacturing systems give you the opportunity to cost-effectively add a matching custom rendition of your logo or special graphics.  Learn more about custom logos.

Finished letters are sealed and protected against weathering with a hardened clear-coat or anodized treatment.

Waterjet vs. Router Cut:

Waterjet cut letters and logos (example at right) are made using a fine, high pressure stream of water that carries an abrasive mineral.  This fine stream cuts and allows for sharp (.030 radius) inside corners, small letters, and intricate detail on logos.

Router cut letters and logos are mechanically routed out of flat metal stock.  Based on the material thickness and letter size, a 1/8" - 1/4" router bit is used.  As a result, inside corners will have a slight radius.  Both methods of cutting allow the same finish after being cut.

Mounting Options
Cast Metal Letters have threaded stud bosses for stud insertion.

Flat Cut Metal Letters have tapped holes for stud insertion or are stud welded.

Flush Mounting studs are set in adhesive cement.  There is no space between the letter and the surface. Projected Jam Nut Mounting studs are set in adhesive cement.  Stainless steel jamb nuts are inserted between the letters and the mounting surface. Projected Spacer Mounting studs are set set in adhesive cement.  Pre-cut spacers are inserted between the letter and the mounting surface. Corrugated Mounting studs are set using jam nuts on the front and back of the corrugation. Flat Metal Wall Mounting studs allow access to the rear of the wall.  Washers and nuts are used on both sides of the mounting wall.

More Information About Flat Cut Metal Letters
Aluminum Alloys
Flat cut Aluminum uses alloy #5052 which offers good cutting, welding, and corrosion resistance.  It is excellent for anodizing and has a superior hardness rating of H32.

Bronze Alloys
Flat cut Bronze uses alloy C22000 which is comprised of 90% copper and 10% zinc - 0% LEAD.

Brass Alloys
Flat cut Brass uses alloy C46400 Naval brass which is comprised of 60% copper, 39.25% zinc, and .75% tin - 0% LEAD.

Muntz Alloys
Muntz metal uses alloy C280 (nearly identical in appearance to brass) which is comprised of 60% copper and 40% zinc - 0% LEAD.

Copper Finishes
Flat cut Copper uses alloy C11000 which offers good cutting, welding, and corrosion resistance.

Stainless Steel Finishes
Flat cut Stainless Steel uses alloy C304 which offers good cutting, welding, and corrosion resistance.

Stainless Steel Surfaces
All stainless steel letters and logos are shipped without clear polyurethane coating.  Alloy C304 will not tarnish under almost any condition.  However, like all flat cut metal products, if exposed to rain, sprinkler systems or other high moisture areas, mineral buildup may occur on the surface of letters or logos.  Using harsh chemicals may cause permanent damage to the material's surface.
